Pilot Projects Investigating Understudied G Protein-Coupled Receptors, Ion Channels, and Protein Kinases (R03 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)
Funding Opportunity RFA-RM-20-019 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. The goal of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) for the Common Fund Program "Illuminating the Druggable Genome" (IDG; https://commonfund.nih.gov/idg/index) is to solicit applications for pilot projects on IDG-eligible understudied proteins (non-olfactory GPCRs, protein kinases, and ion channels) in order to study them beyond what the IDGs Centers can accomplish and to validate and demonstrate the utility of IDG-generated reagents, data, and approaches. Awards will support the generation of additional data and tools around understudied protein(s) identified by the IDG Program to elucidate the function of these proteins in the context of human disease. Data collected and tools generated by these projects will enhance the overall goals of the IDG Program by demonstrating the quality and utility of IDG-generated data and reagents to the scientific community, increasing awareness of the IDG Program through use of IDG-generated resources, and/or extending the characterization of IDG-eligible proteins. The overall goal of the IDG Program is to catalyze research in areas of biology that are currently understudied but that have high potential to impact human health by (1) identifying biochemical, cellular, or animal model phenotypes for understudied proteins from druggable gene families, (2) enabling further investigation of those proteins by providing reagents and tools, and (3) generating, maintaining, and facilitating the use of a minable knowledge base.

Research Supplements to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research (Admin Supp - Clinical Trial Not Allowed)
Funding Opportunity PA-20-166 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention hereby notify Program Director(s)/Principal Investigator(s) (PD(s)/PI(s)) holding specific types of research grants (activity codes listed above) that funds are available for administrative supplements to enhance the diversity of the research workforce by recruiting and supporting students, postdoctorates, and eligible investigators from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups that have been shown to be underrepresented in health-related research. This supplement opportunity is also available to PD(s)/PI(s) of research grants who are or become disabled and need additional support to accommodate their disability in order to continue to work on the research project. Administrative supplements must support work within the scope of the original project. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is designed specifically for applicants proposing research that does not involve leading an independent clinical trial, a clinical trial feasibility study, or an ancillary clinical trial. Applicants to this FOA are permitted to propose research experience in a clinical trial led by a mentor or co-mentor.

Long-Term Effects of Disasters on Health Care Systems Serving Health Disparity Populations (R01- Clinical Trial Optional)
Funding Opportunity PA-20-172 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support investigative and collaborative research focused on understanding the long-term effects of natural and/or human-made disasters on health care systems serving health disparity populations in communities in the U.S., including the U.S. territories. NIH-designated health disparity populations include racial and ethnic minorities (Blacks/African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, American Indians/Alaska Natives, Asians, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders), sexual and gender minorities, socioeconomically disadvantaged populations, and underserved rural populations.

Implementation Research to Improve Case Finding, Cascade Screening, and Treatment for Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH) (R61/R33 Clinical Trial Required)
Funding Opportunity RFA-HL-22-006 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. This milestone-driven Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for single-site clinical trials that: (1) address barriers that impede population-level implementation of case finding and cascade screening (i.e., blood relatives of FH index cases are systematically contacted based on their risk according to the pattern of inheritance); (2) explore implementation science methodologies to assess the uptake, cost-effectiveness, feasibility, and scalability of family-based cascade screening programs for familial hypercholesterolemia (FH); (3) develop or improve machine learning algorithms and data mining techniques to find high-risk individuals using electronic health records (EHRs); and (4) optimize treatment strategies and health outcomes.
